Vidyasagar College, one of the eminent institutions, carries the legacy of Pandit Iswarchandra Vidyasagar located in Kolkata. The Department of Psychology offers a comprehensive Four-year (Honours and Honours with research)/ Three-year (Multidisciplinary) programme of undergraduate course (under CCF, 2022) of Psychology, designed to provide students with a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of the field. This course equips students with in-depth knowledge of psychological principles, research methodologies, and applications across various domains, preparing them for diverse career opportunities in psychology and related disciplines.
Although it is a 150-year-old institution, the Department of Psychology is relatively new, having been established in 2010. The department has three well equipped laboratories and a departmental library with approximately 150 books along with a central library which is accessible for students. The department at present is enriched with eight faculty members and one lab attendant. Each year the department proudly records the meritorious results of a number of students. Generally the department organizes a seminar and a poster competition annually. The department also organizes departmental picnics and alumni meets. In the recent past the students of the department have enthusiastically participated in the poster competition on gender sensitization and the science exhibition organized by the college. The department focuses on their goal to provide sufficient exposure to all the students which can nurture their holistic development of potentials and the department cultivates a dynamic and engaging learning environment that enables students to seamlessly acquire higher education and excel in their academic pursuits.

Departmental library is enriched with around 150 books approximately. Students can access the library according to their requirement. The library consist of books from different areas of psychology providing students the opportunity to explore different areas of the field. This not only helps them to progress in their academics but also facilitates each student to develop a deeper insight in the field of psychology.

| Department of Psychology is equiped with two laboratories at present. Room no. 305 and 308 serve the purpose of departmental lab and is well equiped with all necessary instruments and tools required for the practical classes and experiments essential for the course. Department of psychology is looking forward to have another laboratory which is in the process of being equiped and hopefully it will be developed soon as a functional one. |
