About The Department
The Computer Science Department of Vidyasagar College was established as the degree pass level in 1996 (vide G.O. No.: 1(3)-hdn(CS) dt. 30th January 1996 ) by W.B H.E dept., C.S. Branch, Bikash Bhavan, Calcutta-91 . The department was housed in a tiny room in the third floor of the main building of the college. After getting affiliation from the University of Calcutta (vide no.: C/6262/63-Affl. Dt. 11th August 2004), the department was upgraded in 2005 to conduct Honours course in Computer Science. It acquired three rooms in the premises of the erstwhile students’ hostel in the 19 Bidhan Sarani campus of the college. At present there are 5 members of the faculty including myself, and one Laboratory Attendant.
The present facilities offered by the department are hardware and software laboratory, and a teachers’ room. Both the laboratories contain equipment necessary for conducting practical classes. There is a small departmental library having about 300 reference and text books.
We regularly arrange seminars delivered by renowned personalities and our alumni in different fields of our subject. The students also give talks on different topics outside their prescribed syllabus. Annual alumni meeting and get together are arranged by the faculty members and the current students.
We are very proud that most of our students have done well in their examinations and also are established in their lives. They work in different parts of the world as well as in India.

The departmental library has a collection of books relating to the old syllabi and new CCF syllabus till Semester 6. On receipt of the syllabus regarding Semesters 7, 8 we will have to add new relevant books to use as reference books for teachers and few copies for the students to borrow.
